    Yemeni journalists and media practitioners have been surprised as Yemen's government is planning to secretly approve a draft law of audiovisual and electronic media in parliament, considering such law an unprecedented war against journalism and broadcasting in Yemen.

    A Yemeni state security court on Sunday convicted a former ambassador to Mauritania to five years in jail for his support to secessionist groups in the south of the Arab country.

    Yemen risks a sustained separatist insurgency in the south, scene of increased tit-for-tat violence, unless it seriously addresses grievances of southerners who say their region is neglected by the state.
